How to Recylce CDs into Cute Animal Craft

Find out how to make a variety of animals, bugs, and even birds using unwanted CDs and some basic craft supplies. They can be used for room decorations, magnets, gifts, and so much more. You can start out by making the creatures I designed and then start creating your own. This is a great craft for all ages and the time it takes to complete each creature will vary depending on how much you embellish it.

Besides an old CD, most of these projects consist of a felt or craft foam base. The facial features are created using one or more of the following: felt or craft foam scraps, pom-poms, chenille, stems, feathers, and wiggle eyes. Of course, I encourage you to add your own creative touches to my designs; and, always remember, you can submit pictures of your CD creatures and other crafts using these simple directions.

Now, what creature do you want to make first...

How to Make a CD Bunny

Wouldn't this adorable bunny make a fun Easter decoration? Here are the supplies I used to make this bunny:

I started out by tracing around the CD onto the felt and cutting out the circle. Glue the circle to the CD and start adding the facial details. I cut out ears using the same color felt as the bunny face and then cut out inner ears and a mouth area using white felt.

The eyes were also cut out of felt and glued in place. I used a 1-inch pink pom-pom for the nose and pieces cut from black chenille stems for whiskers. Don't forget a mouth, which I drew on using red dimensional paint.

Make this lovely cardinal and then expand on this idea to create a variety of different birds.

Start by tracing around the CD onto the felt and cutting out the circle. Glue the circle to the CD and then you can start adding the details. I glued red feathers on the sides of the CD to look like wings. I also included a small piece of red feather to what will be the forehead area.

For the face, I cut a square out of black felt and rounded the corners. Glue this on to cover the bottom of the feather you glued onto the forehead. Add wiggle eyes and a small beak cut out of orange felt and your cardinal is done.

This is a perfect craft for any dog lover. I couldn't resist making a Dalmatian, but you can make any breed of dog you like.

Trace around the CD onto the white felt and cut out the circle. Glue the circle to the CD. I cut out ears using white felt and glued them to the top of the head. The eyes were also cut out of felt and glued in place.

At this time, use dimensional paint to add the black spots if you are making a Dalmation. Glue on two large pom-poms to form the dog's mouth and a slightly smaller pom-pom on top of the mouth to make the nose. Glue on two larger wiggle eyes; and, if, you want to add a fun detail, cut out a pink or red tongue and glue it in place.
