What Is the ADA Designed to Eliminate?
- The ADA is designed to eliminate discrimination against people with disabilities as related to employment, including recruitment, hiring, training, pay, advancement and other work-related benefits. It's also intended to eliminate work place obstacles limiting a person's ability to do their job or jobs available to others.
- The ADA eliminates obstacles in places of public accommodation and commercial facilities that do not offer full access to people with disabilities, keeping them from accessing parts of facilities accessible to people without disabilities. New and renovated buildings must provide entrances and exits, including parking spaces, accessible to people with disabilities, as well as access to necessary areas inside the buildings, such as restrooms.
- The ADA also eliminates discrimination against people with disabilities regarding access to certain kinds of services, such as telecommunications services and transportation services, including bus service, airlines, taxi cabs and train service.
