How to Braid Hibiscus

1
    • 1). Look at the hibiscus plant. Trim off three of the lower branches. Allow the plant to grow for one week. Repeat the process for several weeks until approximately six inches of the main stalks of the plant is free of branches.

    • 2). Determine the center stalk/trunk. Insert a dowel in the ground next to the trunk. Secure the trunk to the dowel with several ties.

    • 3). Carefully wrap the stalk to the left of the trunk behind the trunk and to the left. Repeat the process until the area void of branches is wrapped around the main trunk. Secure into place with ties.

    • 4). Carefully wrap the stalk to the right of the trunk around the front of the trunk and to the back. Continue the wrapping pattern until the area void of branches is wrapped entirely around the trunk. Secure into place. Try to crisscross the first wrapped trunk to achieve a braid-like appearance.

    • 5). Water and fertilize the hibiscus over the next few months. Watch for new branches. Wrap the branches around the center stalk and tie into place or prune the branches from the hibiscus according to the desired amount of foliage desired at the top of the plant.
