Cut the Lumber

• 1). Cut one 2-inch-by-4-inch-by-12-foot piece of lumber into two pieces measuring 25 1/2 inches in length with a handsaw. Cut a 5 degree angle on each end of the boards, slanting to the left. Use an electric drill and a 3/8-inch drill bit to drill holes 2 inches and 10 1/4 inches from one end of the board, in the center of the board. These are the front legs.
  
  
• 2). Use a handsaw to cut the remainder of the piece of 2-inch-by-4-inch-by-12-foot lumber into two pieces measuring 27 1/4 inches in length. Cut a 45 degree angle on each end of the boards, slanting to the right. Drill a hole 5 inches from one end of the board, in the center of the board. These are the rear legs.
  
  
• 3). Cut the remainder of the 2-inch-by-4-inch lumber into one piece measuring 30 5/8 inches in length. Cut a second 30 5/8-inch-long piece from a second piece of 2-inch-by-4-inch-by-12-foot piece of lumber. Cut a 30 degree angle on one end of both 30 5/8-inch boards. Drill holes 5 5/8 inches and 15 5/8 inches from the angled end of the board, in the center of the board. These are the back supports.
  
  
• 4). Use a handsaw to cut the remainder of the second 2-inch-by-4-inch-by-12-foot piece of lumber into two pieces measuring 21 inches in length. Cut a 10 degree angle on one end of each board. Drill holes 1 3/4 inches, 9 ¾ inches and 18 3/4 inches from the end of the board that is not angled, in the center of the board. These are the seat supports.
  
  
• 5). Cut the remainder of the second 2-inch-by-4-inch-by-12-foot lumber into two pieces measuring 23 1/8 inches in length. Cut a 15 degree angle on one end of each board and a 5 degree angle on the other ends of the boards, slanting to the left. These are the armrest supports.
  
  
• 6). Use a handsaw to cut two pieces of 1-inch-by-4-inch-by-12-foot lumber into six pieces measuring 33 3/8 inches in length. These are the common slats.
  
  
• 7). Cut one piece of 1-inch-by-4-inch-by-12-foot lumber into one piece measuring 25 1/2 inches in length for the front seat slat and two pieces measuring 20 3/8 inches in length for the arm rests. Use a tape measure to measure 8 inches from one end of the arm rest and mark with a pencil. Measure two inches across the top of the arm rest and mark with a pencil. Draw a line between the two marks and use a handsaw to cut along the line. Repeat to cut the other arm rest.
  
  

Assemble the Chair

• 1). Arrange the seat supports and armrest supports on the ground. Place the front legs over the end of the seat supports and armrest supports and align the holes. Align the hole on the rear legs with the hole in the center of the seat supports. Place the back supports over the seat supports and armrest supports.
  
  
• 2). Insert a 3/8-inch-by-4-inch galvanized carriage bolt through each hole, and secure with nuts and washers. Use a screwdriver to screw a 2-inch wood screw through the bottom of the back supports and into the back legs.
  
  
• 3). Place the frames on their backs 25 1/2 inches apart. Arrange three common slats over both back supports. Screw a wood screw through each end of the slats and into the back supports.
  
  
• 4). Stand the frame up and arrange the remaining three common slats over the seat supports and attach with wood screws. Place the front seat slat on the front of the seat and secure it with wood screws.
  
  
• 5). Place the armrests over the armrest supports and secure with wood screws.
