• The tools each electrician needs can vary according to the job at hand and what his company or electrician's union requires. However, there are some common tools almost every electrician needs to use frequently. Essential electrician's tools will not only need to get most jobs done but will also need to be versatile and easy to carry on-site.
  
  

Wire Strippers

• Electricians frequently have to eliminate the insulation from wiring. Good wire strippers not only get this job finished quickly but can also lower the risk of repetitive stress injury. Wire strippers are fairly inexpensive. Many come with rubber or texturized grips for easier handling and manipulation.
  
  

Screwdrivers

• Electricians may need a variety of screwdrivers, not only for fastening and loosening but also for prying. It's a good idea to buy a screwdriver kit with many kinds of screwdrivers. Pliers

• Pliers are essential electrician's tools. You will more than likely need two kinds of pliers, needle-nose and side-cutting. You may also end up needing, or are required to get, diagonal and channel lock pliers. There are different styles of pliers, but be sure to get sturdy pliers with a tight grip, which are easy to hold, since you will no doubt be exerting no small amount of force when using them.
  
  

Saws

• Electricians need different kind of saws. They can vary greatly depending on what job you need to do. Power saws are going to be the fastest and most useful kinds of saws. You may need anything from spiral saws to portable band saws to keyhole saws, depending on the project. Keyhole saws are particularly useful for electricians since they make small holes in drywall or relatively soft wood. You can also purchase hole saw kits, which come with with an array of hole saws in various diameters.
  
  

Drills

• A drill is another tool which is mandatory for an electrician. However, you may need different kind of drills and drill bits, depending on what you are doing and what kind of materials you need to work with. Cordless drills may be fine for lower-impact work, but a hard material which will require a great deal of force to drill into, like concrete, may require something like a hammer drill. Measuring Tools

• There is almost no electrical job where you won't need to measure something. You can buy a simple tape measure or retractable measure, some of which have magnetic tips which stick to iron and steel so that one person can measure easily. You can also buy laser measures, which not only measure distance but also calculate volume and area.
