The Jura Capresso Impressa S9 One Touch Espresso Machine is an easy to use mid-range espresso machine. I highly recommend it for use in hotels and inns, small cafes without a specialized coffee program in place, offices and other venues in which multiple people would like to prepare various coffee and espresso drinks quickly and easily.

Pros to Jura Capresso Impressa S9 One Touch

Overall, this is a great mid-range espresso machine.


It has all the basics in place, including:

• A conical burr grinder and an 18-bar pump.
• A built-in water filter and a 96-ounce water tank.
• An insulated carafe that can keep milk cold for eight hours, and can be converted into a refrigerated carafe that keeps milk fresh as long as a regular refrigerator.
• The ability to prepare coffee and espresso from whole beans and from ground coffee. (This feature is great for those who want to be able to switch between regular and flavored or decaf coffee without reloading the machine.)
• The ability to make cappuccinos, caffé mochas, lattes or latte macchiatos at the touch of a button.
• The ability to make preset drinks, store personal drink preferences (such as strength and size), make custom drinks and to provide hot water/milk and to froth or steam drinks independent of any presets.
• Three hot water temperature presets for tea.
• Adjustable spouts that work with small espresso cups, demitasse mugs for cappuccinos, or latte cups up to six inches tall.
• A computerized interface that reminds you when the machine needs maintenance (such as more coffee beans or emptied coffee grounds).

• An informative DVD that explains setup, maintenance and daily use.
• A fairly smooth learning curve.
• A neutral, modern design.

Cons to Jura Capresso Impressa S9 One Touch

There are a few potential drawbacks to this espresso maker. These include:

• Technical requirements that could make it problematic for use by customers in venues like doctor's offices or gyms. Users must have some tech savvy to figure the machine out without watching the DVD instructions.
• Occasionally unclear error messages and DVD menu categories / chapters.
• Espresso and coffee that is better than most, but not up to the demanding palates of coffee aficionados.
• The stainless steel "warming platform" didn't seem to warm glasses and cups much during testing.
• Despite its "low noise design," it's fairly loud.
• The fixed-height steam wand is difficult to use with taller glasses.
