How to Prepare a Short Resume

37
    • 1). Place your name and contact information at the very top of the page. Your contact information should include your full street address, phone number and e-mail address.

    • 2). Write a title for your resume. The title should make it very clear what you do. For example, if you work in marketing then the title should be something like "marketing manager" or "marketing professional" to indicate that you have marketing experience.

    • 3). State your top qualifications. To create a short resume, this section should be limited to two to three simple sentences in paragraph form. They should explain your general skills that pertain to the job you are applying for. For example, if you are applying for a marketing position and the ad calls for someone with experience launching products, then you should indicate that experience in you qualifications paragraph.

    • 4). Describe your professional experience from most current to least current. To keep your resume short, list only positions that demonstrate your experience that relate to the position you are applying for. For example, if you are applying for a chemist position, then you will want to list positions in which you gained experience testing products and doing research. A side job working with a landscaping company is not relevant to the position for which you are applying, so leave it off of your resume.

    • 5). List your education starting with the most recent degree achieved and ending with your oldest degree. The education section can be kept brief by only listing the degree and the school you attended. You can even put them both on the same line to save space; just make sure to separate them by a comma. There is no need to list your grade point average or the year you graduated, as this will only take up space in a short resume.

    • 6). Include memberships or certifications that relate to the job you are applying for. There is no need to include things such as a CPR certification if the job you are applying for doesn’t call for it. Instead, if you are applying for a human resources position then list the human resources associations to which you belong.
