Morro de Sao Paulo, Bahia, Brazil
Segunda Praia (Second Beach) is Morro's top party central. The half-crescent has room for parties, shows, festivals, and everyday beach fun such as soccer, volleyball and, since this is Bahia, capoeira.
Home to some of Morro's cute pousadas, such as Villa das Pedras and Villa dos Graffitis, the beach also has restaurants and beach kiosks for some affordable food.
An urbanization project brought about a boardwalk, the wooden lookout point from where the photo above was taken and stairs and path leading onto the beach.
Since cars are not allowed the general population and visitors in Morro, there's a walk from the pier, across Morro's historical portal and the village center with its main square, and down a narrow sandy path to the lookout point, all navigated in an impossibly efficient way by local luggage carriers and their wheelbarrows.
If you packed lightly, you may not need help from the wheelbarrow crew, and luggage with wheels rolls relatively well on the boardwalk - but you will need to carry it on the unpaved path, especially after a spell of heavy rain, when big puddles form.
Travelers staying in hotels and pousadas further down the shore - Terceira Praia, Quarta Praia, Quinta Praia - which have a jeep service can use that to reach Segunda Praia.
