Tasting Notes and Review of Goose Island"s 312 Urban Wheat Ale
About.com Rating
The Bottom Line
This is a pleasant, unassuming beer. It's gentle character tempts me to call it a crossover beer, appropriate for beer drinkers just discovering the complexity of craft beer. It would also be nice with most foods although dishes with strong flavors will quickly overwhelm it.

Guide Review - Tasting Notes and Review of Goose Island's 312 Urban Wheat Ale
312 pours with a cloudy, effervescent body. The average, white head collapses a little quickly for a wheat beer. The nose is light but full of grainy sweetness with maybe a hint of lemon. This American wheat has a simple, sweet flavor and a generally wet body, as opposed to the thick, silky feel of some other wheat beers. A gentle, lemony tanginess led me to believe that this is a 'pre-lemoned' beer but neither the packaging nor Goose Island's website list lemon as an ingredient.
An interesting note about the name: 312 is a reference to the telephone area code for downtown Chicago. This "urban wheat" was designed to celebrate Goose Island's hometown.
