Removal of Bed Mites

    • 1). Wash your bedding weekly. Remove the bedsheets and pillowcases and wash them in warm to hot water in a washing machine. This will remove not only bed mites but dead skin and hair cells that fall off your body nightly.

    • 2). Vacuum your mattress weekly. Use a high-efficiency particulate air (HEPA) vacuum cleaner that is designed to remove the smallest of particles, including bed mites, from various kinds of surfaces. Vacuum upholstery and flooring, particularly in your bedroom and especially if you have carpeting. If you have a bad case of bed mites, consider replacing the carpet with wooden floors. They will decrease the number of bed mites by eliminating warm areas for them to hibernate.

    • 3). Air your mattress weekly for several hours. While you wash the bedding, leave the mattress without a cover to let it air out. Ensuring your mattress is not warm and humid will decrease bed mites living on the mattress.

    • 4). Operate an air purifier in your bedroom. To help remove bed mites, the air purifier should be left on at all times. It will help remove not only bed mites but other allergens, decreasing allergies.

    • 5). Place a plastic cover over your mattress. For severe cases of bed mites, consider using the plastic cover for one year. This will suffocate any mites living in the mattress crevices.
