How to Disconnect Stove Fan Hoods
- 1). Turn off the power to the kitchen from the main circuit breaker in the house.
- 2). Remove the filter from the hood fan. Be careful when removing the filter to prevent dust or buildup from dropping down onto the stove. Draping a plastic sheet over the stove will aid in the cleaning process.
- 3). Remove the cover from the hood using a screwdriver. The cover conceals the motor, fan and vent controls.
- 4). Disconnect the wires from under the cover after you are certain the power is turned off. Use a voltage detector on the wires for precautionary measure to make sure each is free from electrical charge. Remove the end caps from the wires and untwist to disconnect.
- 5). Remove the hood from the wall by removing the screws that connect the hood unit to the wall. Enlist the help of a partner to hold the hood in place as you unscrew it to prevent it from falling onto the stove.
- 6). Discard or clean the hood, depending on your budget or preference.
