    • 4). Measure, mark and cut two pieces of 2-inch-by-4-inch lumber that are 6 feet long. These are your runners.

    • 5). Measure, mark and cut one piece of plywood that measures 4 feet wide and 5 feet long. This is the floor of your shanty.

    • 6). Lay each piece of 2-inch-by-4-inch lumber on the 2-inch side. This is how the lumber will be positioned for each step of the assembly process.

    • 7). Lay two side supports and a front and back horizontal support in front of you. Arrange the pieces to form a rectangle. Secure the pieces together with wood screws. Repeat this process to form three rectangles with the remaining horizontal supports. This will be the bottom, middle and top supports.

    • 8). Position vertical supports at each corner of the bottom support. Center the vertical supports between each corner support. The wide flat edge should be aligned with the outer edge of the support. Secure the supports in place. Repeat this process with the middle support.

    • 9). Place the middle support on top of the bottom support. Secure the pieces together. Lay the top support on top of the middle support and secure the pieces together. You will now have a three-tiered structure.

Lay the floor of your shanty in front of you. Draw a 2-foot-by-2-foot square on the floor that is 6 inches from the front and 2½ feet from each side. Cut out the square but leave it in the floor. This will be the ice hole opening.

Position a hinge on the right and left corner of the opening on the back side of the shanty. Secure the hinges to the floor and opening. Position a hasp hinge on the front center of the opening on the front side of the shanty. Secure the hinges to the floor and opening. Secure the hasp in place with a lock.

Turn the frame upside down and secure the floor to the bottom of the structure. Lay the rails along the right and left sides of the floor. Align the edges of the rails with the edges of the floor. Center the rails so that 6 inches protrude in the front and back of the shanty. Secure the rails into place with wood screws.

Make sure that the window and top of the door are at the top of the panels when sewn together.
