How do I Convert Cassetes to CD?
- Converting cassettes to CD requires a few pieces of equipment. You'll need a tape player, an RCA cable, some free audio editing and recording software and a computer with a sound card and CD burner.
- Connect your cassette tape player to your computer's sound card using the RCA cable and open your audio editing software. Many free programs exist including Audacity and Reaper. Open the program, create a new stereo track and select the sound card's input as your input into the recording software. Hit "Play" on the tape player and "Record" in the recording software. Move through your tape track by track, saving each song separately and creating new files for each subsequent song.
- Once you've imported all of your songs from your cassette onto your computer, convert each file to MP3 or a comparable format. Most recording software records to WAV files as a default, but WAV files are in general too large for CD. Once you've converted your files, burn them to CD via a free CD burning application. Be sure to burn your CD in audio format and not data format.
