Can Blogs Really Make a Difference to People"s Lives?
There's no doubt blogs have changed the lives of many bloggers and blog readers.
From the bloggers point of view it has opened up new ways to earn income - honestly and dishonestly, new ways to promote what they do, new ways to communicate their ideas.
The blog platform has given a voice to everyone.
It's got people known, it's created friendships, it's made fortunes, and it given a voice to everyone with access to the Internet - good or bad.
From the readers perspective they have access to a wealth of information, ideas and opinions inaccessible previously.
I guess somewhere along the way many lives have been affected by that.
In addition blogging opened up a new way to find like minded individuals.
From this point you can assume that there are many blogs providing support to their readers - were I ill for instance - I'd be more likely to research online support than through any local meetings or the like.
But do blogs really change lives? Of course they do.
But I have to wonder if it's just that the means of communication have changed.
Would all of the charities, NGO's and non-profit organizations still be doing the work they are had the blog (or even the Internet itself) come about? The answer has to be yes, they would still be fund raising and working with whatever means available to them.
A blog is just another tool at their disposal.
Where blogging really has come into it's own is through the likes of Bloggers Unite which gives a vehicle to causes to spread the word via the blogosphere - and for lowly bloggers like you and I to lend our support to such campaigns.
But what about the individual I firmly believe that the individual can make a difference, you don't have to be part of a major charity or NGO to change the world.
Well, at least a small part of it.
There must be bloggers all over the world changing views with their posts and getting involved with local or global issues.
With my blog, for instance, I'm planning to actually get out there and get my hands dirty in my own small way.
I genuinely believe as well as writing about the things I am passionate about - I can actually make some real change.
So can you!
