How to Make an Armored Suit

1

    Instructions

    • 1). Make the helmet from the back of a milk jug. Use snips to cut an opening in the top of the jug that is big enough for your head to fit through but small enough for the jug to fit snug on your head. Cut eye holes. Create a grid in the area of the jug that covers from your nose down to just above your chin. Cut vertical slats about 1-inch apart from cheek to cheek to create the grid.

    • 2). Make the helmet face flap over the grid. Retrieve the top portion of the jug that you cut off and cut from where the handle starts to about 3 to 4 inches below where the handle stops, depending on how much is needed to cover the grid. Leave enough to fold and make a small hem. This will smooth the cut edges to provide a polished look. Use craft glue to secure the fold. Cut the back off so that it looks like a face mask then poke holes in both sides about a 1/2 inch from the edges of the top corners. The flap should be able to flip up and stay, so make sure it is tight enough from cheek to cheek.

Locate the midpoint of the cheek bone of the helmet and insert paper fastener. Separate the metal pieces inside of the helmet and fold fold out into a short horizontal line to secure fasteners. Complete on both sides. Attach the face flap by feeding rubber bands through the holes on the face flap. You should be able to grab both ends of the rubber band and hook them over the paper fastener. This should cause the flap to swivel up and down.

    • 3). Make the breast and back plates. Make a plastic version of a vest that covers from your shoulder to your waist using plastic chair seats. Cut 2 to 4 plastic chair seats from their backs according to your size. Locate the front of two seats and glue Velcro straps to connect the two seats together, and then do the same with the other two chair seats. These will serve as your breast and back plates.

Make the connecting tail for the breast and back plates. Cut 2 to 4 chair backs from the point where they connected to the chair seats until they cover from your waist down to midway your thigh. Glue Velcro straps to the end you cut and attach chair backs to the bottom of the both the breast and back plates using the Velcro strips.

    • 4). Make the shoulder cuffs. Use two large juice containers that are rounded at one end and squared at the other and cut them to fit as shoulder armor. Use small elastic strips to act as a hinge between the cuffs and the plates.

    • 5). Make coverage for your private parts. Cut a piece of plastic in the shape of a triangle that will hang from your waist to cover your groin area. Attach two small pieces of Velcro to either a standard belt or a belt made from Velcro that should be worn underneath the armor.

    • 6). Make arm and leg plates. Use plastic water bottles and cut to fit snug around your arms and legs. It may take more than one to completely cover both arms and legs so choose sizes that can provide the most coverage. Also choose cylinder shapes. Attach Velcro strips at the back of the plate to secure snug around arms and legs.

    • 7). Paint the plastic suit. Select a metallic gray, blue or silver-colored spray paint and color the entire suit. You now have your armored suit.
