Potty Training the Yorkshire Terrier

3
Potty Training is the hardest and most important task of owning a Yorkie.
You can train him or her to use the Pee Pad/ Wee Wee Pad or go outside.
I always use the pee pads because it is just so much easier when it rains or it is cold.
You can buy on eBay the piddle pads that are made out of fabric and you can wash them, that helps with keeping a lot of the costs down.
Pee Pee Pads are $7.
00 for 12 pads at Wal-Mart.
There are also belly bands that are WONDERFUL for males.
They wrap around the stomach and velcro on the back, ( you put a woman's pad for the lining) It is heaven sent! The males do not even pay any attention to wearing them.
My friend told me about these pads ( actually she gave me one) and I could kiss her for that valuable information! Anyways getting back to potty training this is my example of what works for me.
This is the easiest way for new pups and adult dogs.
Get a crate and make sure that it is small enough for the pup to be comfortable but that it is only a bed/sleeping area.
If the pup ever has an accident on their blanket DO wash it immediately.
Don't let the pup get use to the smell of pee/poop in their crate.
As time as you take the pup out put her/him on the Pee Pee Pad and don't let them come off until they use it.
Do not wash the pee pee pad for as long as you can stand it.
You can pick the poop up with tissue and flush it but the smell will still be there for the pup to smell and know that is where they must go.
Small pups need to be taken to the pad about 6 times a day.
Usually if you follow this your new pup will be trained in about 2 weeks.
Remember your pup/adult WANTS to do what is right and WANTS to make you happy.
In most cases when a dog can not be trained it is not the pups fault it is the trainer not sticking with the plan.
