Tips on How to Clean Houses

4

    The Kitchen

    • To clean your kitchen and keep it sparkling, wipe off the bottoms of jars before setting them in the refrigerator, and wipe up refrigerator spills when you first see them. Throw out refrigerator items that have expired or that you do not intend to use, including restaurant condiment packages and takeout containers.

Wipe all the fingerprints off the cabinets. Use a paint roller with a long handle to polish the floor after you have mopped it. Fill the dishwasher with dirty dishes as you cook. Every time you talk on the phone in the kitchen, use the time to clear some things out of the junk drawer or pantry. Be sure to do the usual kitchen chores, including wiping down the countertops and appliances and taking out the trash.

    The Bathroom

    • Keep a floor duster and disposable dust cloths in the bathroom closet. Then you can dust the floor throughout the week as you have time. Use disposable cloths to freshen up the sink and toilet top each time you use it. Use a dry towel to wipe the bathroom faucets and mirror after shaving or brushing teeth so that spots will not build up on them. Once a week spray them with glass cleaner, and dry them with paper towels. Wipe the shower and tub down with a squeegee after showering or bathing. Clean it with a tub and shower cleaner weekly. Maintain the toilet bowl weekly by pouring ¼ cup of baking soda into the bowl. Scrub the bowl with a toilet bowl brush, and flush to rinse.

The Living Room and Family Room

    • Get rid of outdated magazines and catalogs, and throw out junk mail daily. Vacuum the high-traffic areas of the floor daily, and vacuum other areas occasionally. Pick things up at the end of the day, putting remotes away, tidying loose papers, folding throws and cleaning off the coffee table and end tables. Dust one bookshelf a day, and dust the lamp shades.

    The Bedroom

    • Every morning when you awake, toss out a couple of things on your nightstand, such as empty perfume bottles and ticket stubs. Use a feather duster to clean the curtains, blinds, dressers and headboards. Make the bed daily. Vacuum the high traffic areas and under the bed so that dust bunnies will not gather. Put shoes in the closet, and toss dirty clothes in the laundry basket.
