Wafer Paper-Decorated Cookies

Wafer Paper-Decorated Cookies

This project is best made with a rolled-out cookie like Holiday Shortbread Recipe or Polish Rolled Butter Cookie Recipe. I discovered Fancy Flours wafer papers and fell in love with them. They take a little getting used to, but once you get the hang of it, it goes quickly. Kids will love the retro look of these Easter papers -- chicks, bunnies, eggs and more. Kids will need help with the decorating process, but they'll be so proud.

The baked and cooled cookies must be frosted with buttercream or royal icing, or covered with fondant. Then the back side of the cut-out wafer paper is brushed with piping gel or white corn syrup and placed on the iced cookie. Then it's time to decorate the raw edges!

Cake Pops Recipe

Cake pops are all the rage and so easy to make with the kids. They can be decorated elegantly or as wacky as you wish and for any holiday or occasion. Just imagine one of these at every child's place for a kid's birthday party. They can even be stuck into a decorated cupcake for extra fun.

Sugar Cookies on a Stick Recipe

These sugar cookies on a stick are simple to make and decorate with the kids. Just imagine grandma's face when your child gives her a bouquet of edible cookies. The cookies can be rolled and cut or made in cookie molds. I advise "gluing" the lollipop sticks to the back of the cookies with royal icing AFTER they're baked. They tend to burn in the oven when inserted into the unbaked dough.

Cupcakes in Petal Cupcake Liners from Wilton

Turn ordinary cupcakes into a breath of fresh air with Wilton's petal cupcake liners. Use a box mix and frosting or your own favorite recipe from scratch. Let the kids decorate with colored sugars, jimmies, and other decorations.

Polish Spritz Cookies Recipe - Ciasteczka z Maszynki

This recipe for Polish spritz cookies or ciasteczka z maszynki, which literally means "cookies made by machine," is best made in a cookie press and can be decorated for every holiday or season. When using a Wilton Cookie Pro Ultra II as I did, the yield will be about seven to eight dozen cookies. Use pastel-colored sugars and jimmies to decorate before or after baking.

Easter Sugar Cookie House Recipe

This Easter house is made with purchased sugar cookie dough and Easter-themed candy decorations. It's easy to make with these step-by-step gingerbread house instructions and a printable fantasy house pattern.

Ice Cream Cone Cupcakes Recipe

This easy recipe for ice cream cone cupcakes can be made with box cake mix and canned frosting, or your favorite homemade mix and frosting. Then, let the kids decorate them with wild abandon.

Easter Lamb Cake Recipe

Easter lamb cake (known as agnuszek or baranek wielkanocny in Polish) is a traditional Eastern European dessert. In the 1950s, tired of paying exorbitant bakery prices, my mother and aunt chipped in to buy a cast-iron lamb mold to make it themselves. We cousins still pass it back and forth at Easter time to this day.

Pound cake is the best candidate for a mold because of its close crumb and box pound cake mixes work just fine, too.

Extra batter can be used to make a little cake for the swieconka basket. Here's more about the lamb mold.

Easter Bunny Cake Recipe

The Inmet's Easter bunny cake mold box, sold by Domitp.com in America, makes a 9-inch high by 5-inch wide rabbit cake. See my review of Domitp.com's Easter bunny cake mold. I translated this Easter Bunny cake recipe from the box and it produces a very thick batter, making for a dense cake -- perfect for the bunny to stand on its own. The bunny can be frosted or very simply dusted with confectioners' sugar.

Tie a ribbon around his neck and he's good to go. Or dye coconut green and set him in a bed of clover surrounded by jelly bean eggs.

Slovak Easter Peeps Recipe

Once an adult makes the dough for this Croatian Easter bread dolls or primorski uskrsne bebe recipe, it's easy for little hands to roll and braid. And it's a double dose of fun because it involves coloring eggs that will be entwined in the dough. Traditionally, the eggs are dyed red, but more vibrant colors are creeping into the tradition. They look charming when laid on the plate at each guest's place setting for Easter dinner.

This recipe for Slovak Easter Paska Bread is made into round loaves decorated with religious symbols made of dough. But this dough can be turned into a delightful project with the kids -- small chick-shaped dinner rolls or Easter paska peeps.
