Sustainable Green Technology - What Does This Mean?

Sustainable green technology is one of those "buzz words" we might hear from environmentalists that seems to be somewhat self explanatory at first thought, but one may well wonder if they understand it fully.
The word 'technology' is understood well enough, and 'green' isn't too hard to grasp in this context - 'sustainable' by itself is understandable, but 'sustainable green'...
now that might be a bit of a head-scratcher.
Is this a technology that's meant to help maintain the greenness of everything? It could be - but let's break things down and make sure.
Alright, let's look at the 'green technology' part for a moment.
We can pretty much understand that this would represent any kind of "Earth friendly" technology which doesn't harm the environment, right? Right, but it's the word 'sustainable' which is of the most importance here.
Sustainable green technology is that which keeps the environment as we found it.
This is done mainly through the use of energy production techniques which #1, does not deplete the environment's resources, and #2, has little or no impact on the environment.
Now, in order for a resource to be used without depleting it, it must be renewable.
Here's an example - two resources: fossil fuels, and solar energy.
The former is not renewable, it just gets consumed and there is no replacing it.
The latter is renewable - we can collect the sun's rays in solar panels, and there will always be more and more of the sun's rays continually being produced - it is a renewable resource.
Get it? What are some other examples of sustainable green technology? Well, there's wind power, where you use a wind-powered turbine for generating electricity.
Many homes do this today, running completely off the grid on maybe two or three windmills, supplying electricity to a battery of cells to regulate the flow for in-home electricity use.
Another is geothermal power, where the cooling and heating qualities of the ground beneath the house can be exploited for heat and hot water purposes.
Of course, there is also solar power, which may be the most well-known today.
Solar power is considered to be the "cleanest" energy there is.
All that's needed is the sun, solar panels, and the home - no emissions, no exhaust, no moving parts, no noise, just pure free energy at its finest.
When using sustainable green technologies for designing a home however, it's best to use a combination of as many of these as possible for the most efficient use of environmentally provided free energy.
There's just a lot of common sense to utilizing multiple angles of energy production, and it helps make us more involved with the world we're living on as well.
Instead of arranging the environment and manipulating it around us to conform to our own whims, we need to be fitting into it as the children of the Earth that we are.
