- Adequate hydration is important for keeping hair shiny, healthy and growing. Dehydration can lead to dull, dry, brittle hair and breakage. Make sure you are drinking your recommended eight glasses a day and your hair and skin both will be healthier and more beautiful. Drinking enough water may not directly make hair grow faster, but it will save you from split ends and extra trimming.
- Regular exercise improves circulation throughout the entire body, including the scalp. Increased blood flow means more blood and nutrients being supplied to hair follicles. Although it will not produce the same results as exercise, you can also increase blood circulation to the scalp by stimulating your scalp with a daily gentle massage.
- Some foods, especially proteins, can help keep hair growing its fastest, while others like saturated fat, can slow down natural hair growth. Eggs, yogurt, almonds, cashews and milk are good food choices to encourage hair growth because they are high in protein yet low in saturated fat. Vitamins A, B, C, and E are all necessary for promoting hair growth as well as the minerals zinc, and iron, which are found in beef, spinach, yogurt, and fish. Avoid diets that require you to eliminate entire food groups as this can rob your body of the nutrients it needs, slowing hair growth.
- Make sure you are getting your recommended eight hours of sleep each night. Without adequate sleep, your body will not have enough energy to nourish hair and stimulate growth. Hair growth may actually occur more rapidly during sleep, so if you're not getting enough, you're missing out.
- It is annoying to have to cut off an inch of hair after it seems like it took forever just to grow it that much. However, you are not doing yourself any favors by skipping a monthly or bi-monthly trim. This will keep split ends at bay and should set you on your way to smoother, shinier, longer hair.
