Gas grills made of stainless steel are beautiful particularly when brand new. When grilling on your brand new gas grill you may feel assured you will be adept at keeping it looking shiny and new. However, as you use your stainless grill, you begin to realize how difficult it is to maintain its shining beauty. Stainless steel grills can corrode as a result of water and dirt if the stainless steel is not of a high quality. You need to know how to maintain a stainless steel grill and keep it clean.

It is important to understand that many barbecue grills are made primarily from steel, stainless steel, or a combination of both. Not sure you know the difference between the two metals? Steel starts off as iron, then carbon is added during the manufacturing procedure. It is a much stronger metal than iron. As most people know, when steel is open to moisture or water, it corrodes forming a brown iron oxide, better known as rust. Numerous grills rust because they are made of steel. In addition, most grills are typically only given one or two basic coats of paint The paint easily chips and scratches and that is where the corrosion starts. Stainless steel is used when possible so that the grills will not rust. By adding nickel to steel and a chromium-rich oxide film will prevent rust. The correct content of nickel and the chromium film is what prevents the stainless steel from rusting. There are different grades of stainless steel quality based upon the amount of nickel employed. These two metals are expensive, that is why high quality stainless steel is expensive. Stainless steel with smaller amounts of these two metals will most definitely  rust. High quality stainless steel is expensive because it has adequate content of these two metals to prevent rusting.

Always clean your Stainless steel grill as soon as possible after use. All excess dirt should be wiped off soon after the grill has cooled. To wipe off the grill, you will need glass cleaner and paper towels, a mild dish washing liquid, soft cotton cloths, and two plastic spray bottles. You will need to fill each spray bottle with water. Deposit a tablespoon of dish washing liquid into one of the two spray bottles. Both spray bottles should be set to mist. Now spray the grill completely with the spray bottle containing the water and dish washing liquid.

Immediately gently wipe the entire surface with the soft cotton cloth. The spray bottle containing clear water should now be used to rinse the whole grill.  It is important to rinse the dish washing liquid completely or spots will appear on the grill's surface. You can complete the cleaning process with the second white cloth; wipe down the complete grill surface. Employ paper towels and the glass cleaner if there are any remaining spots or fingerprints.

By no means clean the grill when it is still hot or warm.  Every time avoid cleaning the surface with steel wool or metal brushes since this will scratch the surface. When scratches appear on the grill, use a stainless steel polisher to polish the surface and work on the scratches. It is a good level of work, but you can maintain your stainless steel grill remains looking new and shiny.
