David Trubridge Coral Pendant Light
Bringing you the charm of natural wood is the most elegant design by David Trubridge. Wood isn't the first thing you think of when it comes to light fittings, but it works like a treat with the Coral pendant.
Coral by name and Coral in looks, certainly taking inspiration from the sea bed. It's made of hoop pine ply, that comes with an untreated finish and indeed in kit set - you have to create your Coral with plastic clips.
The Coral Pendant Light require assembly and have detailed instructions included. It is made from hoop pine plywood, plastic clips and includes electrical fittings and a cable. We recommend a certified electrician install these lights.
"My ideas come from wild places, edges of turbulence and renewal, where seas break on beaches and headlands, where land and air meet on mountain ridges. I make forms of elemental simplicity, as the erosion of air and water on wood and stone, forms that speak of humanity's survival on earth, of life's fragility and dependence, of comfort in the ways of the past that have succoured us, and optimism for a sustainable and enriching future. I work within the limits of what I have and know, simplicity and low impact, natural materials and processes, leaving a delicate footprint." - David Trubridge
He would like to find a way to bring cultural nourishment into people's lives without using up precious resources and energy. People have far too much 'stuff' in our homes, which is little more than junk food designed to leave them only craving more. How can they create real and lasting nourishment without the clutter of useless objects that waste precious resources and damage the environment?! Design that does not address this issue is, He believes, both irresponsible and irrelevant.
He does not design to fulfill a practical function. He designs to communicate, to tell a story, to relate what he finds in the mountains and wilderness and what it is to be human. As an artist he develops forms and a vocabulary from what he sees and feels around him. This is his personal language that he uses to tell his story. As a designer he can then use these forms and vocabulary to build with. If he didn't do that first development part of the process, his work would be derivative, and he would only be able to reshuffle existing forms that others have developed - what is the point in that?! Finally he uses his craft knowledge to find a way to make the design. Art, craft and design: all are equally important parts of the whole creative process. All the way though this process he tries to be as caring and sensitive to the environment as possible, and to pass on that sense of care within the object.
