Symptoms

• Symptoms of heart burn include a pain or burning sensation in the chest or a sour taste in the mouth. Signs of a heart attack include: (a) pressure or tightening in the chest lasting for several minutes or more; (b) pain that spreads to other parts of the upper body and back, especially the left arm; and (c) shortness of breath, sweating and dizziness.

• Maintaining a heart-healthy lifestyle and knowing the symptoms of a heart attack are the first steps. Regular doctor visits will help to determine whether or not a person has existing heart problems or is at risk for a heart attack.
  
  

Treatment

• People should contact emergency services even if they are not sure whether their chest pain is due to heart trouble or acid reflux. Emergency services should be contacted the moment symptoms appear.
