Rolaids Recalled Dec. 9, 2010 -- Some 13 million packages of Rolaids Softchews may contain metal and wood particles and are being recalled by Johnson & Johnson.

It's the latest in a long string of snafus to plague J&J's McNeil division. The firm earlier this year recalled various lots of Mylanta, Tylenol, Children's Benadryl, Junior Strength Motrin, and Pepcid products.

On Nov. 15, J&J recalled a single lot of cherry flavor Rolaids Softchews. That recall has now been vastly expanded.

This time it's Rolaids Extra Strength Softchews, Rolaids Extra Strength Plus Gas Softchews, and Rolaids Multi-Symptom plus Anti-Gas Softchews that are being recalled. All lots of these products are included in the recall.

J&J/McNeil says in a news release that the "foreign materials" were "potentially introduced into the product during the manufacturing process by a third party manufacturer" and that "the risk of serious adverse health consequences is remote."

However, the company is telling consumers to stop using the products and to contact McNeil Consumer Healthcare for a refund. Anyone experiencing adverse events after using the products should contact the FDA's MedWatch reporting program.
