Prepare the salmon to the taste specifications you desire by using either marinades, dried or fresh spices or your favorite recipe. Place in refrigerator until ready to cook. - 2

Put on gloves. Remove the grill rack. Place loosely rolled newspaper in the bottom of the chimney starter and charcoal in the top. Place the starter on the base of the grill. Light the newspaper to start the coals burning. Let stand until coals glow red. - 3

Pour the hot coals onto the grill base. Rake the coals into two separate piles on each side of the grill using the hoe. Place a metal drip pan in the center of the grill with the coals on each side for indirect cooking. Replace the grill rack on the grill. - 4
