For one man and antiquities, a dream has come true. Sam Merrin is the president of The Merrin Gallery, specializing in art from the ancient worlds of Egypt, Greece, Rome, Mesoamerica, South America and the Near East.

A history of the business, The Merrin Gallery itself, owned by Samuel Merrin along with Moshe Bronstein, was established in 1999. And while formally incorporated in that year, it is a second-generation antiquities business started by Samuel's father, Edward Merrin in the '60s, when Edward started acquiring and selling ancient South American art, eventually becoming an expert in the area. Although Edward's son, Samuel, formally took over the business in the late '90s, he has been involved with ancient art for his entire life. As a young child Samuel Merrin regularly visited the gallery and worked there during many vacations. Sam was inspired by both the magnificence and story of the ancient pieces he could handle. Therefore, after graduating for his bachelor's degree from Tufts, Sam worked at the Cloisters Museum and had an internship at the Metropolitan Museum of Art, both in New York.

In addition to private collectors, Samuel has been instrumental in creating many considerable art collections in the States and Western Europe. For instance, The Merrin Gallery's clients are among many of the greatest museums of the world, including the Museum of Fine Arts Houston (MFAH), the Sackler Art Museum at Harvard University, the Cincinnati Art Museum, the Los Angeles County Museum of Art, the Yale University Art Gallery, the Boston Museum of Fine Arts and the Metropolitan Museum of Art; as well as the British Museum in London, the State Museum of Egyptian Art in Munich, the Louvre in Paris, among a variety of other museums in Australia and Holland.

Today, Sam Merrin is a well-known expert in the authenticity and worth of objects of ancient art. From Classical antiquities of Greece & Rome to pre-Columbian art, he has evaluated antiquities for the IAAATA, private collectors, and institutions. Furthermore, Sam has coordinated several reputable art exhibitions, and published catalogues to accompany the objects for sale. Samuel Merrin has been quoted as an expert for the WJS, the New York Times and several art magazines and on television. View one of Samuel Merrin's favorite pieces of ancient art - Maya on YouTube.

Within the past five decades, Ed and Samuel have acquired, and facilitated antiquities collections of high repute with leading institutions, museums and private collectors. Particularly in the last couple of years, Samuel Merrin has acquired older art collections from major families. Working with owners, which wanted the transactions maintained as classified to protect their interests, Sam placed the valued objects of art 'quietly'. Celebrated as one of the advantages of The Merrin Gallery, this has kept Sam a renowned player in the ancient art world - sometimes rivaling Sotheby's and Christie's. Where for example, to get private art collections as well as separate pieces, Sam Merrin has at times outbid the leading auction houses. Consequently, Sam has the standing position and aptitude to select part or entire ancient art collections, some acquired several years ago, and follow any selling wishes of the client.

Samuel Merrin has been and remains a highly-commended figure of great standing in the ancient art world.
