How Long to Bake a Chicken
- A whole fryer or broiler chicken will take about 2 hours to cook in the oven at 350 degrees. Season your chicken as desired and place in a roaster pan. Cover it tightly and bake for 1 hour and 45 minutes. Remove the cover and finish baking for 15 more minutes. Check doneness with a meat thermometer.
- Bake seasoned chicken breasts in a casserole dish at 350 degrees for 1 hour. Boneless breasts will be done in about 45 minutes. Check with a meat thermometer or be sure that juices run clear.
- Bake chicken legs and thighs for 45 minutes at 350 degrees. Wings will take about 25 to 30 minutes. Chicken legs, thighs, and wings cook faster than the larger bone-in breasts. Chicken thigh and leg quarters will take longer if cooked as one piece--about 1 hour. Check doneness with a meat thermometer.
