The Facts You Must Know About Penis Enlargement Surgery - A Summary of Medical Evidence

1
The general view within the medical community is that men seeking a viable method of penis enlargement have no option but to resort to surgery.
At the same time, alternative methods are almost universally denounced as quack remedies, propagated by unscrupulous marketeers.
Of course, most of the natural alternatives are indeed quack remedies.
The many pills, patches, creams, and lotions available on the market may well cause your inbox to bulge with spam, but unfortunately they won't have the same effect on your penis.
But there is a problem - various recent studies into the effectiveness, safety and patient satisfaction rates associated with penis enlargement surgery paint quite a discouraging picture of the 'only way' to enlarge the penis.
A study published in the Journal of European Urology in 2005 summed up the air of caution that most medical professionals lean towards.
In the study, the authors stated that 'significant questions regarding the methodology and effectiveness [of surgical penis enlargement procedures] exist'.
This is an opinion shared by numerous medical bodies including the American Urological Association and American Society of Plastic Surgeons, both of which consider surgical enlargement techniques to still be experimental, having shown little evidence of either safety or effectiveness.
So how effective is surgery? The above study went on to record average increases of just 0.
6 inches in stretched flaccid penis length following penis lengthening surgery.
Another study published in the journal of European Urology the following year told a similar story - recording average increases of just 0.
5 inches in penis length.
According to the researchers, practitioners of penis lengthening surgery tend to greatly exaggerate the results their patients typically achieve.
They further state that realistically, a gain of 1 inch in flaccid penis length and half an inch in erect penis length should be considered a success.
Potential Negative Consequences A gain of half an inch in penis length might be worth the $5000 lengthening price tag if results are guaranteed to be complication free.
However, the 2005 European Urology study mentioned above records some pretty serious complications if things go wrong - which they seem to do quite frequently.
Within its findings, the study reports that post operatively 25 percent of patients experienced penile curvature and/or pain during erection, 9.
1 percent experienced prominent raised hypertrophic scars, whilst 27.
3 percent suffered from a condition called Paraphimosis - a serious problem where the foreskin gets trapped behind the penile head, leading to lost circulation and potentially, permanent tissue damage if left untreated.
These complications were in addition to the common post surgery culprits such as bruising, infection and prolonged wound drainage.
But possibly the most alarming potential complication associated with penis enlargement surgery is permanent penile shortening - the total opposite of what's meant to be achieved.
Penile shortening can occur due to the development of internal scar tissue that causes the penis to retract inside the body.
And it's a very real risk - a small but significant 5 percent of men who opt for penis enlargement surgery end up shorter than they were originally - by up to an inch or more in length.
So it seems that the risks associated with penis enlargement surgery greatly out way the benefits.
You part with a significant amount of cash; get wheeled into the operating theatre with the hope and expectation of a bigger penis and all the positive changes you think that will bring...
and when you get wheeled out, you run the risk of being shorter than before and bent like a banana.
Not surprising then that statistics show surgery has a patient satisfaction rate of a mere 35 percent.
So although the medical profession as a whole consider surgery the only route to a larger penis, the reality of the matter in terms of limited successes and very real potential drawbacks are quite different.
Fortunately, the medical profession are starting to acknowledge that permanent penis enlargement may be possible through non-surgical methods.
Research published in the British Journal of Urology in 2008 for example noted that men achieved results comparable to a successful penis lengthening surgical procedure simply through the use of penis traction device.
Over a six month treatment period, they recorded average gains of 0.
9 inches in flaccid penis length and 0.
65 inches in flaccid penis length - all achieved without complication.
Penis traction may therefore be one of the few 'quack' remedies that really does work; and is certainly worth considering seriously before entrusting your favourite organ to the hands of a surgeon.
