How to Safely Access Semi-Trailers
- 1). Park the semi-trailer on a level surface and slide the wheel chocks in the front of and behind both rear wheels. This process will increase safety and prevent the semi- trailer from rolling.
- 2). Move to the rear of the trailer and remove any locks from the locking rod attachments. Once the locks have been removed, flip the pivotal locking clasps that the locks were attached to. Grab the handle of each locking rod and turn both locking rods completely to the far right to unlock each door.
- 3). Pull outward on each door to open the doors. Use the locking rods to grab and pull each door outward if necessary.
- 4). Pull each door completely to the side of the trailer. Secure the doors to the side of the trailer either with the accompanied chain on the back of the trailer or with a piece of rope. This process will hold the doors open.
- 5). Push the mobile stair-steps to the rear of the trailer. Align the top of the stair-steps with the rear floor plate of the trailer. Lock the wheels on the steps to prevent the stairs from rolling.
- 6). Walk up the steps and into the trailer. Reverse the same process outlined above to remove the stair-steps and close the doors.
