The Disadvantages of Tooth Whitening

2
The tooth whitening industry has seen a sharp rise in popularity and demand which has lasted through the past several years, bringing what was once a fairly minor branch of the cosmetic enhancement market into the spotlight all at one.
While this is by largely a good thing for those who are interested in having their teeth whitened, as the technology and methods have advanced a great deal in recent years due to the increase in popular demand, not all of the side effects of this rise to the center stage have been entirely beneficial.
Whenever a relatively small industry experiences a rapid rise in popularity, there are bound to be people who stand to make money from this, and where money is to be made, you must be particularly careful, as not all may be quite as it seems.
You see, the leaders of the tooth whitening industry are quick to talk about all the things that make it such a great process, but they are not so quick to tell people about the disadvantages of tooth whitening.
As such, you must be sure you know the disadvantages of tooth whitening ahead of time.
By far the most significant disadvantages of tooth whitening are the side effects that may occur due to the tooth whitening process itself.
The most common of these side effects is a temporary but often significantly uncomfortable sensitivity in your teeth.
This does not occur in all cases, of course, nor does it occur with all methods of tooth whitening.
However, it is still something you should most certainly be aware of.
In order to deal with this problem, you have a few different options.
The first would be to simply wait it out and allow the symptoms to pass normally.
This may take a bit of time, and prolong the discomfort, but you can be sure that these symptoms are only temporary.
Another method would be to use a specially formulated toothpaste that helps your teeth recover more quickly from the effects of the tooth whitening process which are the cause of the sensitivity.
Another problem in the ranks of the disadvantages of tooth whitening is the occasional development of discolored spots on your teeth.
These spots can appear in a number of different ways, but overall it simply looks like parts of your teeth have been whitened while other parts have not.
This is because, essentially, that is precisely what has happened.
Some parts of your teeth may respond at different rates to a tooth whitening procedure than others, which may leave you with an inconsistent finished product.
This can be fixed with further treatments, as the teeth should catch up to a point of consistency by the time the treatments are complete.
However, in the mean time this can prove to be annoying and even a bit problematic.
The best thing to do to be sure you understand these and other disadvantages of tooth whitening is to ask as many questions as you feel are necessary to have confidence in your procedure.
