Image Consultant Advice for Middle-Aged Women

24
THE MIDDLE-AGED WOMAN

Middle-aged women can spruce up their look to be more effective at work and in social situations. This advice, from the perspective of an image consultant, pertains to hair, makeup, and shoes.

GETTING THE HAIR RIGHT

You can reduce the problems you have at work by making sure your hair is neat. This is easier said than done. Neat hair, first of all, is tight to the head and has no flyaways. It is not frizzy. It can be in an updo, like a beehive, or teased. It can be in a flip, or cut with bangs. As long as it is neat it will be acceptable.

Some women cut their hair too short as they start to get older. They think it is inappropriate to have long hair. While it is true that shoulder-length hair is common for middle-aged women, it can be slightly longer, provided that the strands are kept close to the head.

One of the methods of keeping the strands neat is using spray. Unfortunately, this method has the disadvantage of containing carcinogenic chemicals that will be inhaled and that will penetrate through the scalp and cause disease. A better solution is to use a conditioner after you shampoo, then secure your hair with ribbons, clips, or other fastening devices. You could also wear a hat, a very fashionable option.

CAMOUFLAGING THE AGE

You can use makeup for camouflaging to avoid people noticing your age. This is especially useful if you have a type of skin that is smooth but with a few imperfections. If your skin is very dry you will need to smooth it first, and a good way to do that is by ingesting fish oil (three to four grams) daily.

Another way to mask your age is to wear a veil. You can wear a veil if you are in a friend's wedding and no one will see your blemishes and bumps until you take off your wedding veil. Yet another way to mask and camouflage the problem is to wear paint on your face in the style of American Indians on the warpath. All these ideas work best in a theatrical context.

COVERING THE FEET

If you are getting older you will need to wear something that is trendy but not too silly. That is why we recommend that middle-aged women consider boots. They are always in style, and you can even wear them to the office, unless you are an attorney. Black and dark brown boots are best. Avoid all light shades.

It is important to have appropriate hair, makeup, and shoes when you are an older woman. An image consultant can help you select a good hairstyle, can put you in contact with a professional makeup artist, and can help you select footwear so that you look years younger.
