How to Compound & Polish Auto Finishes
- 1). Wash the body of your vehicle with an auto detergent. All washing should be performed with a soft towel or a soft-bristled brush.
- 2). Dry the car thoroughly using a chamois cloth.
- 3). Cover a foam pad with a generous amount of polishing compound. Foam application pads are included with most containers of polishing compound.
- 4). Apply a thin coating of compound to the entire body, moving the pad in a broad circular motion. Cover the pad with more compound as needed. Allow the coat to dry for at least 20 minutes.
- 5). Buff off the coat with a polishing cloth. Buffing should be performed in a rapid circular motion for best results.
- 6). Repeat the above steps at least once every three months to maintain your vehicle's finish.
