Surviving the Christmas Season
So Christmas is not the most wonderful time of the year for you, but everyone else is full of spirit.
How do you get through this holiday? Here are some tips to survive the holiday season with your sanity intact: oAvoid doing any shopping on the weekends.
This is the time when malls are busy and there is little parking to be found.
If you want to spend your entire day in traffic and looking for parking spots, then by all means do your shopping on the weekends.
Many stores are open 24 hours just for the holiday season.
Try shopping at an odd hour or through the dinner hour when people are at home.
oDon't commit to too many "events".
Whether it is visiting with people or attending parties.
If your schedule is booked for the entire holiday, it won't be very relaxing for you.
Don't feel obligated to attend all of these events.
Just explain to people that you can't make it or you are already booked for something else.
Your sanity will remain intact and you won't become too stressed out.
oTry to get the majority of your shopping done before December.
It may be too late for you this year, but starting after the season, look for sales and get a jump on next year.
If you get all of your shopping done before December, you will have time to relax and enjoy the holiday.
oIf you are doing a Christmas dinner, plan your menu a few days ahead, or even a week ahead.
It is a great idea to search online recipe sites for ideas.
Print off all of those recipes and put them into a binder.
Next, make a list of all of the food you will need to cook the meal.
Get to the store at a time that is not too busy and get everything that you will need for the meal.
Don't forget wine for dinner or special treats.
oKids are naturally very excited about Christmas.
Enlist their help in wrapping gifts for other people.
This will keep them busy and out of your hair while you get other things done.
oSpeaking of kids, it is always a great idea to give them a catalogue and allow them to make a wish list of what they want for Christmas.
Tell them to make a list, and explain that they will only receive a few things on that list.
This will take the guesswork out of your shopping.
Christmas comes every year.
Some of us love it, others of us, well...
we have to get through it.
Planning ahead will make your holiday more enjoyable and less stressful.
