How to: Hashtags in Replies
- 1). Open a Web browser window and navigate to Twitter.com.
- 2). Type your username and password in their respective fields at the top-right corner of the window, and then click "Sign In."
- 3). Scroll through your Twitter timeline until you locate the tweet to which you want to reply.
- 4). Hover over the tweet to highlight it in blue, and then click "Reply."
- 5). Begin typing your reply after the "@UserName" text that is already in the field. Note that typing any letters or numbers directly before the "@UserName" text, such as "Hi@UserName," will result in the tweet not being sent to that person. Additionally, any punctuation added to the "@UserName" text will affect who receives the tweet. So "@User.Name" would actually go to "@User" instead of your intended recipient.
- 6). Add your hashtag to the reply in the form of "#Hashtag." Like Twitter replies, any letters or numbers directly preceding the "#" symbol, such as "bad#Hashtag," will result in the hashtag not working. Any punctuation added to the hashtag will end the text included as part of that hashtag. For example, "#Hash.tag" would actually result in a hashtag of "#Hash."
- 7). Click the "Tweet" button to send your message.
