So You Need to Replace Your Toilet? Is Price a Determining Factor in Quality?
As I visited my local big box store to purchase a new toilet, the resident plumbing fixture employee asked if he can help me.
Usually they are very helpful and this is not a complaint about their competency.
However, when I mentioned I was looking for a certain model, he started telling me about toilets and how important it was to know if they were going to be on the second or 1st floor.
I asked why he thought that was important and he said" if it is on the 2nd floor, the air pressure and gravity will help push the toilet matter down so all I needed is the one that was on sale.
" I was a little confused so I tried to help in understanding the difference between flushing down from the 2nd or 1st floor and flushing side ways in a bathroom located in the basement.
Once I explained my experience he started to listen.
Here is what I told him.
Getting the proper toilet is more based on the Flush Performance rather then the cost or location.
Because location can easily be solved with a toilet with a high flush performance.
The most expensive toilet can cost you more in water bills and frustration then one that costs less then $100.
When you look for a toilet, read the box and make sure the manufacturer is detailed about the specifications.
This means the specs need to mention the flush performance of the toilet.
All other details will not matter if it does not specify the flush performance.
If you are buying a toilet for a heavy use washroom then make sure to get one that is at least rated at a score of 800.
For better performance, selecting a toilet rated at a score of 1000 is even better.
The score is the actual grams it can flush.
These higher rated toilets may even have a vacuum assist or pressure assist which means they are even more powerful.
However, if the toilet is mainly used in a powder room with little traffic, you can easily purchase the one that is rated at 350 or higher.
It is important to know how busy the washroom that is getting the will be.
There is nothing worse then a clogged toilet for a guest.
It can be very embarrassing.
So if you get one at a higher higher performance, you ensure they feel comfortable in your home.
If you plan ahead you will ensure you do not spend hundreds of dollars on a toilet that will not get the use.
