Preparation

• To repair your toilet tank, you will need to drain the water from it first. Located on your wall behind the toilet is a water valve. This valve needs to be shut off. Turn the valve clockwise, or to the right to shut it off. Flush the toilet to drain the water from the tank. It will not refill because the water has been shut off.
  
  

Remove Water Line

• Located on the underside of the tank is the water line. This line must be disconnected. Place a bucket underneath the line running to the tank. Unscrew the plastic nut holding the water line to the tank. Turn the nut counterclockwise until it is completely loose from the tank. Pull down on the water line. The remaining water in the tank will flow into the bucket.
  
  

Remove Tank Parts

• There will be a second plastic nut holding the fill valve in place. this nut is also located on the underneath side of the tank. Remove the nut. Pull up on the fill valve to remove it from the tank. Remove the flapper chain from the toilet handle. Unclasp the back of the flapper that is connected to the base of the overflow pipe. Remove the flapper from the toilet.
  
  

Install New Parts

• Set the new fill valve in the same position from where you removed the old one. Hold it in place with one hand, and place the rubber washer on the threaded portion that sticks out on the underneath side of the tank. Use the plastic nut to secure the fill valve in place. The washer will keep the fill valve from leaking. Install the new flapper in the exact same place from where you removed the old one. Reconnect the chain to the toilet handle.
  
  

Reconnect the Water Line

• After you have replaced all of the parts, reconnect the water line and turn the water back on. It is easiest to replace one part at a time. As you remove one part, install the new one just like it. This will help you to remember exactly how the part is connected. There are also step-by-step instructions that come with each kit.
