Top 10 Men"s World Cup Slalom Ski Racers-2014 Race 2
Here's a look at the top ten men's World Cup Slalom ski racers following the second Slalom race of 2014 at Val d'Isere, France on 12/15/13.
This was day two for racing on Val d'Isere's steep and icy Face de Belvarde where the men tried to hang on and race the second Slalom event of the 2014 FIS World Cup season. Mario Matt of Austria managed the win, .53 seconds up on Sweden's Mattias Hargin and .78 seconds faster than third place finisher Patrick Thaler of Italy.
A good number of the big guns either skied out or didn't qualify for the second run, including Marcel Hirscher (DNQ), Ted Ligety (DNQ) and Bode Miller (DNF1) but there was a refreshing surprise here. As I said before David Chodounsky of the U.S. Team just needed to settle in and focus and he did just that, skiing the fourth fastest second run to land in seventh place for his career best showing - so far.
Jean-Baptiste Grange of France seems to be getting his gate work dialed in as he finished just off the podium in fourth place and moved up to fifth in the FIS World Cup Slalom rankings.
