How to Check the Oil Level in a 1998 Suzuki Savage

4
    • 1). Start the motorcycle and let the motor idle for five minutes. The engine oil will warm as the motor runs, providing a better indication of the oil level. Stop the motor and turn off the ignition switch after the oil has warmed. Let the motorcycle sit for a few minutes to ensure the oil has drained out of the engine.

    • 2). Stand to the right of the motorcycle and crouch down until you can see the oil sight glass on the right side of the motor, just above the right foot peg. Grasp the right handlebar and the motorcycle's frame and pull the motorcycle off of its kickstand. Hold the bike vertically.

    • 3). Observe the oil level rise as oil fills the sight glass. The sight glass has a set of marks placed near the top and bottom of the glass, indicating the motor's oil capacity. Ideally, the oil level should be centered between both marks. If the oil level is closer to the bottom mark, add a small amount of oil into the motor's oil filler to raise the oil level. If the oil level is close to the top mark, use a hand pump to suck small amounts of oil out from the oil filler.

    • 4). Set the motorcycle onto its kickstand.
