How to Replace the Rear Hatch Struts on a Chevy Astro
- 1). Raise the hatch and place a piece of 2-by-4 between the bumper and the hatch to hold it up while you are replacing the struts. You can also have a helper hold the hatch for you if you don't have a 2-by-4.
- 2). Remove the bolts securing the hatch strut at the hatch and the body of the Astro with a ratchet; there will be two bolts that you need to remove at each mounting location.
- 3). Pull the hatch strut out of the van and place the new one in.
- 4). Secure the new hatch strut with bolts that you removed earlier, and tighten with a ratchet.
- 5). Repeat the process for the other hatch strut.
