How to Level the Blades on a Murray Riding Mower
- 1). Place your mower on a flat surface. Remove the spark plug wire to prevent the mower from accidentally starting. Verify that all four tires are properly inflated because incorrect air pressure in the tires can lead to an uneven appearance to your lawn after it's cut.
- 2). Disengage the blade using the blade rotation control. Lift open the cover. Position the lift lever to "level adjustment." Use an adjustable wrench to unloosen the front and rear adjuster knobs. Examine the link rod and mower drive belt to make sure that the link rod is not resting on the motor drive belt.
- 3). Press on the link rod, and check to see that the adjuster plate moves freely. Use a torque wrench to tighten the front and rear adjuster knobs to a torque of 10 ft. lb.
- 4). Move the lift lever from the "level adjustment" position to your preferred cutting height position. Shut the cover, and reattach the spark plug wire.
- 5). Test whether the blades appear to be cutting level by mowing a short swathe of grass. Repeat the steps and make adjustments to the rear and front adjuster knobs if further leveling is necessary,
