How to Maintain Living Quarters

6

    Cleaning the Kitchen

    • 1). Take all of the contents of your cupboards out and scrub the shelves and walls of the cupboards. Be thorough. Don’t forget to scrub the cupboard door.

    • 2). Take all of the contents out of your fridge and freezer and scrub the inside thoroughly. Go through the contents of the fridge and freezer and throw out whatever has expired or gone bad.

    • 3). Wipe down your stove, concentrating on cleaning up any baked-on grime. Wipe down the walls around your stove as oils, sauces and cooking residues tend to accumulate there.

    • 4). Scrub the floor using your favorite cleaning product mixed with water in a large pail. You may wish to use a mop or scrub with a sponge or rag on your hands and knees. Do this step last so you don’t have to walk across the floor again until it dries.

    Cleaning the Bathroom

    • 1). De-clutter the room by putting everything in its place. Put hair products, shaving tools, toothbrushes, scales, etc. in baskets or drawers out of the way.

    • 2). Scrub the bathroom countertop with a sponge or rag and any type of cleaner. Focus on corners and ledges that don’t usually get wiped down.

    • 3). Scrub the bathroom mirror with a rag and glass cleaner. Using glass cleaner will help reduce the number of streaks left behind on the glass.

    • 4). Scrub the bath tub with a strong bathroom cleaner. If your tub has a lot of built-up soap scum, use a concentrated cleaner, applying it directly to the soap scum. Allow it to sit for approximately 15 minutes before scrubbing.

    • 5). Slosh toilet bowl cleaner around the inside of the toilet bowl. Allow it to sit for a few minutes, then clean the toilet bowl with a toilet bowl brush. The brush will allow you to get into the space under the lip of the toilet bowl.

    • 6). Wipe down the rest of the toilet using a bathroom cleaner. Do not forget to wipe the rims and undersides of all three lids. Make sure you wipe the toilet in the space behind the lid where dirt and grime often gathers.

    • 7). Scrub the floor in the same manner you scrub the kitchen floor.

    Organizing the Closets

    • 1). Remove everything from your closets and wipe down the inside walls with an all-purpose cleanser if necessary.

    • 2). Sort through the contents of the closet. Make a pile of things to get rid of and a pile of things to keep.

    • 3). Categorize the things you are keeping and organize them before putting them back in the closet. You may wish to purchase some see-through plastic bins to help keep your closet organized.

    • 4). Return everything you are keeping to your closet in an organized way. Throw or give away everything else.
