How to Make Silverfish Control
- 1). Restrict access to water. Check for leaks or areas where there is standing water. Silverfish thrive in damp moist areas and are frequently found around drains and sinks. Repair leaks and wipe all areas dry.
- 2). Reduce humidity with a dehumidifier in areas where you have silverfish. Silverfish thrive in temperatures between 70 and 80 degrees with a relative humidity of 75 to 95 percent.
- 3). Vacuum your home, paying special attention to closets and materials that have been stored for a long time. Use a crevice attachment to get into cracks and corners. Clean and move stacks of paper, boxes and fabrics that may be harboring silverfish.
- 4). Spay, dust or bait cracks and crevices, baseboards, dark closets and drain areas with a product labeled to control silverfish. D-limonene, clove or thyme oil, boric acid or diatomaceous earth are natural active ingredients in insect treatments that work on silverfish. Synthetic ingredients to control silverfish are bifenthrin, lambda-cyhalothrin, cypermethrin, permethrin or deltamethrin.
