The Best Time to Take Protein Supplements

1
If you are at all interested in strength training or muscle building then a protein shake is probably in your diet at least a couple times a week.
You may however have a great question, when is the best time to take your protein shake.
There are actually two times that a protein shake will work the best for you.
Depending on what you are using the shake for and how many grams of protein you are wanting to consume in the day.
If you are a full fledge bodybuilder you will likely be taking a protein supplement a number of times a day, but for the rest of us there is no real reason to consume that much protein in a day.
A healthy diet actually will have enough protein for the average man or woman.
A protein shake should be used as a supplement to help ensure that this is happening and as a convenient meal which is easily digested and quickly reaches the bloodstream.
This brings us to the 1st of the 2 times you should take a shake.
This is more for a convenient meal than anything else, it is first thing in the morning.
When you wake up first thing in the morning your body has generally had about 8 hours with no food intake and will be low in energy and protein.
This is when a protein shake will work well to give you muscles a quick boost and get the protein to them quickly to help them continue to build muscle.
The second key time to take a shake is within 30 minutes of your workout.
This is actually the key time in the day to take the shake.
This is because at this time your muscles will be screaming for a great quality protein.
Also, a protein shake will be quickly digested by the body and will reach the bloodstream much quicker than any other meal.
This is really the advantage of a protein shake, the speed at which it will hit the blood stream.
Because it is in liquid form it will reach the blood stream much faster than any other meal type.
It really doesn't need to be digested much, and in both of these scenarios you will be taking it on an empty stomach, wich will decrease the time of digestion even further.
Remember your nutrition is more than half the battle of any great health and fitness plan.
