DIY Change Jars
- 1). Set the jar on a sturdy surface with the lid screwed on it tightly. Hold the jar steady with your non-dominant hand.
- 2). Puncture a slit in the center of the lid with the blade of a sharp knife. You might need to do this two or three times across the width. This lets you make the slit as large as you desire. Some people might want to use it for paper bills as well as coins.
- 3). Increase the size of the slit by inserting a butter knife into it and pushing the handle to one side. Do this while holding the jar firmly with your non-dominant hand. This forces the opening to widen by pushing the metal apart.
- 4). Remove the lid from the jar and place it on newspapers on a flat surface.
- 5). Paint the top side of the lid with acrylic paint and a craft paint brush. Do this in any color you desire. Children might want to coordinate the jar lid with their bedroom decor. Give the jar lid time to dry while you are decorating the jar.
- 6). Add your initials, the name of what you are saving for or colorful designs to the jar with glass paint markers. Fill in the designs or just make outlines of flowers, geometric shapes or whatever you desire.
- 7). Screw the lid onto the jar once the paint dries.
