How to Grow Indian Gooseberry From Seed

1
    • 1). Extract the seeds from the ripe fruit, which tends to be very tight within its skin when ready for picking. Cut through the stone with a sharp knife to expose the seeds inside. Discard any seeds that you damage in the cutting.

    • 2). Place the seeds in a bowl of water and rinse them between your fingers. Save only the seeds that drop to the bottom of the bowl and discard the rest.

    • 3). Plant the seeds in a potting mixture of equal parts of sand, humus, dampened peat moss and vermiculite. Bury the seeds 1/4 inch deep and tamp the soil slightly to make good soil contact. Water the seeds lightly so you don’t disturb the soil.

    • 4). Place the plant pot in a plastic bag to create a tropical environment for the seeds. Store the pot in a warm and sunny spot for the next couple of weeks or until the seeds sprout. The temperature should stay between 75 and 80 degrees Fahrenheit, and you should give it six to eight hours of sunlight per day.

    • 5). Remove the plastic bag when the seedlings emerge. Water the seedlings when the top of the soil feels dry, allowing the excess water to drain away. Move the seedlings outside as soon as possible, to a spot where they will have plenty of room to grow, 40 feet away from any other trees.
