The body is amazingly constructed that everything one needs is actually just within the body.

The muscle is the contractile unit of the body.
Microscopically, the functional unit is called a sarcomere, and this small structure represents the entire bulk of the biceps or the triceps or any muscle at that.
This unit is still made up of small structures that function in amazing ways in order to get you moving.
In a nutshell, the muscle makes the body move.
Without it, there will be no movement.
Take a look at people who have cerebrovascular accident; their primary problem is paralysis, or the inability to execute movement due to a muscle's inability to contract on a cellular level.
That means, those small sarcomere units are not functioning as they should because they are not innervated or there is no neural supply from the higher brain centers.
Without this connection, the functional unit does not receive motor instructions from the higher brain centers thus will not contract, leading into paralysis.
Over a period of time, a muscle that does not move due to paralysis undergoes a spiraling downward effect that makes your muscle shrink.
When you look at a stroke person, you will notice that the muscles on the affected side are shrinking.
This is certainly due to a condition known as atrophy.
In contrast when a person exercises and constantly does so, his muscles will undergo a process known as hypertrophy, the exact opposite of atrophy, which is increase in size.
However, scientific studies reveal that after two weeks of exercise, muscles will grow in size or hypertrophy, but that effect will be completely reversed in a few days.
That's why exercising should be a lifestyle to maintain its effects on muscle.
It should not just be a one-time event.
It should be a lifestyle.
When one exercises, he should not stop in order not to reverse its effects.
Muscles will remain well sized and strong when one maintains proper exercises.
