    Side Effects

    Serious Side Effects

    • Serious side effects may include bradycardia (low heart rate), tachycardia (fast heart rate), hypertension (high blood pressure) and peripheral edema, which is swelling in the lower extremities.

    Drug Interactions

    • Cortrosyn may interact with other medications. Tell your doctor if you are taking cortisone, estrogen, hydrocortisone or water pills. Although not prescription medications, herbal supplements and vitamins you are taking should also be reported to your doctor.

    Cortosyn Description

    • Cortrosyn is a mixture of 0.25 mg of Cortrosyn and 10 mg of mannitol, to be mixed with 1 mL of 0.9 percent sodium chloride injection. Intravenous and intramuscular are the administration routes.
