Kitty Potty Training - How to Train Your Cat to Use the Toilet

14
Whether you are the owner of only one precious kitty cat, or you're the infamous "cat lady" in your neighborhood, you are bound to encounter those not-so-lovely odors that cats just can't help but produce.
You know what I'm talking about.
People these days are turning to training their cats to use the toilet more and more, and most of them are using the most basic technique of them all to do it.
I recently had to train my kitty to use the toiled, so I know for a fact that these steps work.
Every cat is different, of course.
But, I have talked to several friends, and have heard countless comments about how well this process works.
Trust me -- you will be thanking me the day you wake up and your first task of the day is to make yourself breakfast, not clean up the kitty mess.
Step 1 - Hopefully you already own a littler box.
Before you could ever train your cat to use a toilet, your little friend needs to master the litter box first.
Yes, I know that sounds a little redundant.
But, just trust me.
Using the toilet is a giant step up from using the litter box (pun intended), and using the litter box is a giant step up from using whatever the cat so pleases.
Both steps must be taken.
Step 2 - If the cat has already mastered the litter box, position your litter box directly next to your toilet.
If you have a second toilet that no one actually uses, it would be wise to place the litter box next to that toilet.
This will be the toilet that your kitty ultimately ends up using as his or her own toilet, so if you have qualms with the idea of using the same toilet as your cat, you best consider this step long and hard.
Step 3 - Every day, increase the litter box's height in small increments.
You can use printer paper, old books, etc...
Really, you can use anything.
Just make sure you are steadily increasing the box's height each day.
Make sure your cat has an easy path to the box as you raise it by building a leader step next to the box.
Step 4 - Once the box's height is even with the toilet seat, gradually move the box each day until the litter box is completely covering the seat.
This should take 10 to 14 days, so don't try to rush it too much.
Step 5 - Once the box is fully in position, replace the box with wax paper.
The paper should cover the entire top of the toilet bowl.
Add some kitty litter to the top of the paper, and close the toilet's lid.
Step 6 - After 2 or 3 days, cut a small hole in the middle of the wax paper.
Continue to add kitty litter, but each day cut a larger hole in the paper.
Eventually, the paper will no longer be covering the toilet, and your cat should finally be properly trained to use the toilet.
Congratulations!
