How to Do Smudged Black Eyeliner
- 1). Wash the area around the with eye-makeup remover. This will remove any dirt or makeup on the eyelid. Rinse the eye-makeup remover off with warm water.
- 2). Apply an eye primer to the eye area. Spread a thin layer over the lid. This creates a base for the eyeliner and will help it stay in place. Dust the eyelid with a nude or translucent powder.
- 3). Line the upper lid with a pencil eyeliner. Begin the line at the inner corner of the eye and follow the lash line until you reach the outer corner. Stay as close to the line as possible.
- 4). Hold the smudging brush between your index finger and thumb. Start at the middle of the eyelash line and gently rub the smudge brush upwards as you work down the lash-line to the outer corner. You will only brush upwards a small amount, about 1/8 inch. This will rough up the straight line and cause the eyeliner to smudge.
- 5). Pick the smudge brush up and repeat the process, starting from the inner eye corner. Only use the smudging technique down the length of the lash-line two or three times. You do not want to erase the eyeliner completely from your eyes. Repeat for the opposite eye.
- 6). Line the lower lash-line with eyeliner. Hold the eyeliner just under the lashes and follow the natural curve of the eye.
- 7). Smudge the lower lash-line by dragging the smudge brush along the lash-line, over the eyeliner. Do not pull the eyeliner downwards.
- 8). Dip an angled, flat brush in to a black or darker shade eye-shadow. Brush the eye-shadow over the eyeliner to hold it in place when finished.
