How to Wire a Speaker With Two Positives

35
    • 1). Identify the positive and negative connections on the back of your speaker. Positive terminals are usually denoted by a + sign or the color red. Negative terminals are identified by a - sign or the color black.

    • 2). Cut lengths of speaker wire long enough to reach from your speaker to your receiver. There should be one set of speaker wire for each set of terminals. Most speaker wire comes with a positive and negative wire attached together. Therefore a speaker with two positive and two negative connections will have two lengths of speaker wire, each containing a positive and negative wire.

    • 3). Split 2 inches of the end of the speaker wire to separate the positive and negative sides by pulling the two wires apart with your fingers. Repeat on both ends of both sets of speaker wire.

    • 4). Strip 1/2 inch of the wires' protective plastic sheath away to expose the bare wire. Repeat until both positive and negative wires, at both ends, of each set of speaker wire are stripped.

    • 5). Depress the spring-loaded tab on the speaker wire terminal, and insert the speaker wire, releasing the tab to lock onto the wire. Make sure you use the same side of the speaker wire for each type of connection, positive or negative. Most speaker wire has distinct markings for each wire so that you can distinguish between positive and negative. For example, if one side of the speaker wire is silver and one is gold, use silver for both positive connections and gold for both negative connections, or vice-versa.

    • 6). Combine the speaker wires together at the receiver side by combining positive wire with positive wire and negative with negative simply by twisting the bare wires together. The end result should be one positive wire and one negative wire.

    • 7). Depress the spring-loaded tab on the back of the receiver, and insert the speaker wire. Like the speaker, the receiver should have clues denoting positive and negative terminals.
